The preparations for the celebration of the Madonna di Materdomini begin in the month of July. Frequently ceremonial stalls decorated with festoons and lights dedicated to the Madonna are to be found in court yards and public squares. General participation in the event increases noteably in the period of the festa itself from the 6th to the 14th of August when the novena takes place. This is characterized by the recital of the Rosary as from early morning and the faithful from neighbouring towns too, go in procession to the Sanctuary carrying effigies of the Madonna or crucifixes and flags. The festa culminates with the vigil of the pilgrims in the night between the 14th and 15th of August inside the Sanctuary and in the square.
